June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the emotional wounds many individuals carry after trauma—especially those in our military communities. Southern California is home to some of the nation’s largest military installations, including Camp Pendleton, Naval Base San Diego, March Air Reserve Base, and Edwards Air Force Base. At Coastal Breeze Mental Health, we proudly support active-duty service members, veterans, and their families on their path to healing.
Understanding PTSD
PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. For military personnel, this often includes combat, deployment-related stress, injury, or witnessing loss. But PTSD is not limited to those experiences—sexual assault, domestic violence, accidents, and medical trauma are also common causes.
Common PTSD symptoms include:
Flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive memories
Difficulty sleeping or relaxing
Emotional detachment or numbness
Avoiding people or places that trigger memories
Increased irritability or hypervigilance
If these symptoms persist for more than a few weeks and impact daily life, professional support is essential.

We are honored to serve Southern California’s military families and proudly accept TRICARE insurance. Our providers understand military life and its pressures—from frequent relocations to deployment transitions—and we’re here to offer support rooted in compassion and clinical expertise.
